Description

The Galapagos Islands, officially known as the Archipelago of Galapagos, is a volcanic archipelago located in the Pacific Ocean. It is part of Ecuador and is situated about 620 miles (1,000 kilometers) off its coast. The Galapagos Islands are famous for their remarkable biodiversity and unique wildlife, inspiring Charles Darwin's theory of evolution.

The archipelago consists of 18 main islands, 3 smaller islands, and over 100 islets and rocks. The largest island is Isabela, followed by Santa Cruz, Fernandina, and San Cristobal. Each island has its own distinct ecosystems and wildlife.

One of the primary reasons why the Galapagos Islands are renowned is because of the incredible array of species that inhabit the islands. Many of these species are found nowhere else on Earth and have evolved to adapt to the unique environmental conditions of the islands. Some notable wildlife species include the Galapagos giant tortoise, marine iguanas, blue-footed boobies, Galapagos penguins, and Darwin's finches.
